Understanding Gaskets

There are many gases and fluids circulating in a vehicle at all times. Learning what gaskets do is essential to maintain the longevity of your vehicle. If any of the gases and fluids escape from your vehicle, this can potentially be detrimental to your vehicle and can also be dangerous.

One sign that your gasket is failing is when you observe foaming and bubbling within the radiator. You may also notice white smoke coming from the tailpipe. These are both indicators that your gasket is failing.

One of the most common signs of gasket failure is the engine of a vehicle overheating. This is commonly the result of increased wear due to motor oil and antifreeze being mixed together. In the event that a large amount of coolant leaks into the cylinders, hydrolock can occur. This ultimately causes the exhaust to issue steam, eventually causing damage to the catalytic converter.
