We live in a critical time, where increased CO2 emissions threaten to throw our planet's climate into disarray. While Nissan may not be shutting down vehicle manufacturing and re-tooling into a bicycle company, the company is committed to producing new vehicles as sustainably as possible.

Nissan assembled NESCO (Nissan Energy Savings Collaboration) teams to perform audits on all their manufacturing facilities. The NESCO teams determine where and how energy is being used, and find ways to reduce that energy.

Since their inception, NESCO has made changes like lowering temperatures in electrodeposition-coating ovens, optimizing cooling processes to use less electricity, and using different sized induction furnaces for different sized materials.

The results?

A 58,000 ton reduction in CO2 annually, and 331,184 tons CO2 saved between 2005 and 2015.
