The Nissan Altima Stands above the Rest in a Competitive Sedan Market

Here at Lithia Nissan of Eugene we know that drivers searching for a fun-to-drive, affordable sedan might be overwhelmed by the number of choices available.

Which is why we did some research and came up with this handy guide to help you decide between the Nissan Altima, the Toyota Corolla, or the Toyota Camry.

First, the basics. All three of these cars have four doors, seat five people, and come with a host of great possible features and additions.

But, the Altima has more headroom and legroom than the other two cars and it is more fuel efficient on the highway than both of the other sedans. Plus, it packs more power than both of its competition.

Great Choices in Trims

The Nissan Altima received a state-of-the art revamp just a few years ago, making it one of the most hip, technologically advanced four-door sedans on the market.

The Altima comes available in a range of five trim levels to choose from, including:

  • The base
  • The S
  • The SR (available in either 2.5 four-cylinder or the 3.5 V6)
  • The SV
  • The SL (available in either 2.5 four-cylinder or the 3.5 V6)

The Nissan Altima vs. Toyota Corolla

In a head-to-head comparison of the Altima and Toyota's smaller sedan, the Corolla, the Altima offers 179 horsepower, versus just 132 horsepower from the Corolla.

Plus, it beats the Corolla in another of other ways, including:

  • An 18 gallon gas tank versus a 13.2 gallon tank, meaning less stops at the gas station for you.
  • A 2.5L base engine, as opposed to a 1.8L base in the Corolla.
  • A more roomy interior for both driver and passengers in comparison to the Corolla.

The Nissan Altima vs. Toyota Camry

The Altima also offers more power than that other Toyota standby, the Camry. With more horsepower and 177 feet-pounds torque, compared to 170 feet-pounds torque for the Camry, the Altima is the powerful choice.

The Nissan Altima also outshines the Camry in other ways, including:

  • Better fuel economy, with the Altima averaging 27 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway, as opposed to the Camry's average 24 mpg city and 33 mpg highway.
  • More room on the inside for passengers, including more headroom and legroom.
  • More overall width.
